Role Purpose:
The Estimator plays a crucial role in the success of large-scale water and utility infrastructure projects. By developing precise and competitive estimates, you will ensure that the organization secures vital contracts and contributes to the improvement of community water systems. This role requires a blend of analytical skills and collaborative teamwork to deliver results that align with project goals.
What Will You Be Doing:
You will be actively engaged in analyzing project plans, specifications, and contract documents daily. Your main responsibilities will include performing detailed quantity takeoffs, coordinating with team members, and developing cost models that reflect comprehensive scopes of work. You will also evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring they are competitive and meet the project's requirements.
The successful candidate will undertake the following responsibilities:
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and contract documents for public infrastructure projects.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and material pricing.
- Coordinate input from estimating team members on large or complex estimates.
- Build comprehensive cost models and scopes of work.
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids for competitiveness and completeness.
- Develop and review bid packages and conduct risk assessments.
- Support post-bid buyouts and seamless handoff to project management.
- Create estimates at all levels: conceptual, schematic, and fully designed stages.
- Understand scheduling, logistics, and phasing for constructability and cost impact.
- Ensure compliance with diversity and local hiring goals as required by contracts.
What you bring to the table:
- Minimum of 5 years of estimating experience OR 3+ years with a construction-related college degree.
- Experience estimating complex civil, transportation, healthcare, or large commercial projects exceeding $30M.
- Proficiency in modern estimating tools and software (e.g., HCSS, OST, Bluebeam, or similar).
- Deep understanding of construction methods, labor costs, and engineering principles.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication and presentation abilities.
Nice-to-have profile points include:
- Experience with large-scale water treatment or wastewater management projects.
- Familiarity with project management and scheduling software.
- Knowledge of local market trends and regulations related to water infrastructure.
- Previous experience in a team leadership or mentoring role
